REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR TECHNICAL SEMINARS IN SEPTEMBER Since August 1st, members have already registered for our one-day seminars in Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal this coming September. These seminars, held in collaboration with HP Canada and HP Corporation, will focus on delivering HP enterprise computing environment directions to IT professionals. Members interested in OpenVMS and Tru64 UNIX will gain significant value from these seminars. Space for each seminar is limited so register early to avoid disappointment. To register or to find out more about these seminars, go to: http://www.canacu.org/seminar.htm 2. SPONSORSHIP PARTICIPATION IN SEMINARS To help offset the Association's planning costs, we are inviting corporate affiliates and partners to participate in the sponsorship of the technical seminars. For full information about the cost and benefits of a seminar sponsorship, go to: http://www.canacu.org/seminar-sponsorshipinfo.htm 3. MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT PROGRAM TO COMMENCE Although new members have already been signing up through the online registration form in the Association Web site, we will soon initiate a Membership Referral Program as part of the process to achieve the development objectives for the Association. Details on how to participate in the program will be posted at: http://www.canacu.org/members-activities.htm 4. ASSOCIATION MESSAGE BOARD TO LAUNCH NEXT WEEK An online interactive message board for the Association will be introduce to the membership on the week of August 11th. Full details on how to access the message board will be posted at http://www.canacu.org/members-messageboard.htm once our board moderators are in place. 5. ONLINE ADVOCACY INSTAPOLL COMING TO ASSOCIATION WEB SITE HP's Online Advocacy Program (OAP)_will soon introduce its Instapol, an online polling service on HP related topics and issues, onthe Association Web site. Instapol currently exists on the OAP site but HP is anxious to have this service present on all user group Web sites around the world. Keep an eye out for Instapol on the front page of the Association Web site in the days to come: http://www.canacu.org/home.htm 6. OPENVMS INSTALLATION by Chris Rupnik This is a little article detailing my experiences installing OpenVMS on my little system. This machine had NetBSD running on it, and being a little nostalgic for the OS that I used while in University (the little pavo cluster that could), I ordered the install kit. (Go to http://www.canacu.org/library-technical-VMS-ChrisRupnik for complete article - ed.) 7. SELF MAINTAINERS SIG There has been interest in a new SIG for HP Self Maintainers. As you may know, a self maintainer is a firm that does not have a direct service level agreement with HP and is therefore responsible for supporting their own hardware and software. The purpose for this new SIG would be for members to exchange information regarding issues pertaining to those self maintainers that specifically deal with internal customers. This is an exciting opportunity to exchange ideas, concerns and questions for those members that do not have specific relationships with HP. In addition, the Association can serve as a conduit to HP, providing a way for self maintainers to more effectively service their users. If you are a HP Self Maintainer, and are interested in participating in this SIG, please let us know at 'inquire@canacu.org'. 8. ON-LINE ADVOCACY Have issues for HP? Share your thoughts! Reach HP through the "Local Voices...Global Reach" Online Advocacy Program. Your opinions count, so visit today to submit issues or participate in the latest Insta-poll question. If you have issues specific to HP Canada that you think are not appropriate for the Online Advocacy Program, feel free to forward them to advocacy@canacu.org, and the Association board will present it to the Canadian Management Committee through our HP Delegate, Matthew MacFarlane. 9.
