TALKS ON SPRING TECHNICAL SEMINAR IN THE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION The Association is presently in discussions with the OpenVMS group at HP on the prospects of planning a technical seminar in the Ottawa area this coming spring. Initial proposals are to present the seminar as part of the "OpenVMS Technical Update Days" series that is held three to four times a year around the world. Topics to be covered will also include UNIX related issues such as tru64/HP-UX migration since our membership has express much interest in the this area as indicated by our technical seminars last September. Please watch for updates on the planning of the seminar in the 'Events' section of the Association Web site at: http://www.canacu.org/events-home.htm 2. OPENVMS SUCCESSFULLY BOOTED ON ITANIUM On 31st January 2003, OPENVMS successfully booted on Itanium! The test which was passed was to boot OpenVMS, log in, and produce a directory listing. This confirms that many key system routines and drivers are working as they should, but of course there's still a lot of work to be done. 3. MEET MATCH COMPUTER - OUR NEW SPONSOR! Match Computer Corporation, a Plymouth, Massachusetts reseller of refurbished equipment for legacy DEC equipment, is the first company to sign up as a sponsor for the Association's 2003 Sponsorship Program. As part of the value exchange in our sponsorsorship program, we have allocated an advertisement section at the end of the newsletter for articles and announcements from our sponsors. Look for this week's announcement from Match Computer at the bottom of this newsletter. 4. SELF MAINTAINERS SIG There has been interest in a new SIG for Compaq Self Maintainers. As you may know, a self maintainer is a firm that does not have a direct service level agreement with Compaq and is therefore responsible for supporting their own hardware and software. The purpose for this new SIG would be for members to exchange information regarding issues pertaining to those self maintainers that specifically deal with internal customers. This is an exciting opportunity to exchange ideas, concerns and questions for those members that do not have specific relationships with Compaq. In addition, the Association can serve as a conduit to Compaq, providing a way for self maintainers to more effectively service their users. If you are a Compaq Self Maintainer, and are interested in participating in this SIG, please let us know at 'inquire@canacu.org'. 6. ON-LINE ADVOCACY Have issues for Compaq? Share your thoughts! Reach Compaq through the "Local Voices...Global Reach" Online Advocacy Program.
