TECHNICAL SEMINAR IN JUNE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA The "OpenVMS Strategy & Directions - 2003" two-day technical seminar will be held in Fauteux Hall at the University of Ottawa in downtown Ottawa. This centrally located venue is within walking distance to the city's main attractions such as the Byward Market, the Rideau Canal, and Parliament Hill. We are currently working with the hotels in the immediate area to obtain more favourable rates for our seminar attendees. FACELIFT FOR OpenVMS SITE The OpenVMS Hobbyist Web site by the Dallas Ft. Worth Computer User Group recently received a facelift and upgrade into the OpenVMS Hobbyist Portal. This site has been a source for free OpenVMS and OpenVMS Layered Product Licenses for personal non-business use and includes new links such as the OpenVMS Hobbyist FAQ, OpenVMS Hobbyist Gallery, DEC and Hobbyist History timelines, OpenVMS Hobbyist Artwork (for your fashionable webpages running on your OpenVMS Hobbyist Systems). UPDATE ON OpenVMS VERSION 7.3-2 FIELD TEST Message from HP - This is an update on OpenVMS Version 7.3-2 field test. As many of you know, we had expected to enter external field test in late winter 2003. We have decided to delay the start of field test; external field test is now targeted to start in early June 2003. The timeframe for final submission to manufacturing, in late summer/early fall 2003, remains unchanged. We hope that this delay in field test will not affect your ability or desire to participate in field test, because we value your involvement in the overall completion of the product. 5. CURRENT INSTAPOLL QUESTION Current InstaPoll Question: "Of the following list which was the most frequent 'deciding' factor for driving hardware and/or software upgrades in your organization during the last two years?" OpenVMS HOBBYIST LICENSE You can order the OpenVMS Hobbyist License through your membership in the Association. Here are the instructions: - The complete transaction takes place on the OpenVMS site - Go to - Go to the link "License Register". This will take you to a license registration page where you will be required to complete a form - Enter your Association membership number on the ordering form - If you do not know your membership number, or you are not a member of the Association, send an e-mail message to inquire@canacu.org. The license is free of charge. There is a charge of $30.00 USF if you want to receive the software on CD media. 7. OpenVMS LICENCE ON CD - DO YOU HAVE A COPY? One of our members is trying to get a copy of the OpenVMS license on CD media. Our colleagues over at the Montegar Web site are remastering the CDs and they will not be available for while yet. If you have a CD copy of the OpenVMS licence and you are willing to help out a fellow member, please send us an e-mail message to info@canacu.org and we will put you in touch with the member who is in need of the copy.
