KEYNOTE SPEAKER CONFIRMED FOR OTTAWA TECHNICAL SEMINAR Confirmation has been received from Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Co. that Chris Brown, Director of Strategy, HP OpenVMS Software Group from HP's Nashua, New Hampshire office will be delivering the keynote address at the opening of the "OpenVMS Strategy & Directions - 2003" technical seminar. The two-day seminar will take place at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Law's Fauteux Hall in the Ottawa downtown area. SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR SEMINAR ACCOMMODATIONS IN DOWNTOWN OTTAWA The Association has made special arrangements with a couple of hotels in the downtown Ottawa area for out-of-town members attending the technical seminar. These hotels are either within walking distance or in close proximity to Fauteux Hall at the University of Ottawa where the seminar will be held. ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT TO ATTEND CHPUG MEETING IN AMSTERDAM Association President, Dave Wilson, will be attending the Executive Council meeting of the Confederation of HP User Groups (CHPUG) in Amsterdam this coming week on May 18th to 20th. The CHPUG Executive Council consists of representitives from the regional councils. As Canada is currently the chair of the America's Council, Dave's participation at the meeting will be to represent the Americas. Stay tuned for a report on the CHPUG meetings in the next issue of this newsletter. "JOB'S AREA" TO BE IMPLEMENTED ON ASSOCIATION WEB SITE After being approached by both members and head-hunters to have the Association provide a venue for posting job opportunities and resumes, the Board has unanimously decided to implement a "Jobs Area" on the Association Web site where the service will be free to members, but recruiters and head-hunters will be charged a fee. Suggestions and discussions on the implementation of this new service are invited. Your comments can be posted on the Association message board at: http://www.canacu.org/members-messageboard.htm 5. OpenVMS HOBBYIST LICENSE You can order the OpenVMS Hobbyist License through your membership in the Association. Here are the instructions: - The complete transaction takes place on the OpenVMS site - Go to - Go to the link "License Register". This will take you to a license registration page where you will be required to complete a form - Enter your Association membership number on the ordering form - If you do not know your membership number, or you are not a member of the Association, send an e-mail message to inquire@canacu.org. The license is free of charge. There is a charge of $30.00 USF if you want to receive the software on CD media. 7. OpenVMS LICENCE ON CD - DO YOU HAVE A COPY? One of our members is trying to get a copy of the OpenVMS license on CD media. Our colleagues over at the Montegar Web site are remastering the CDs and they will not be available for while yet. If you have a CD copy of the OpenVMS licence and you are willing to help out a fellow member, please send us an e-mail message to info@canacu.org and we will put you in touch with the member who is in need of the copy.
