PROPOSAL FOR FALL 3003 TECHNICAL SEMINAR 4. STILL SOME OpenVMS HOBBYIST KITS AVAILABLE ======================================================================= 1. PASSING AWAY OF BRIAN COLL We regret to announce the passing away of Brian Coll last Sunday on August 10, 2003. A marketing communications specialist for 30 years with Digital, Compaq and then Hewlett Packard at the time of his death, many of us will remember Brian Coll as Vice President External Relations for Digital Canada who also served as the DEC Delegate for DECUS until he left for the US in the early 1990's. He later participated in the Digital Task Force to create the set of "Guiding Principles" in preparation for the acquisition of Digital by Compaq in the late 1990's. Brian Coll, 55, was born in Ontario and is survived by his wife of 25 years, LaDona Coll, his two daughters, Alyson and Amanda, and two sisters. He was a good friend and active supporter of DECUS Canada and is best know by members of the Association for his keen understanding of user groups as being beneficial to both the company and contributing to a healthy customer and market environment. He will be missed by the our user group community. Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, 1 Bromfield Street, Boston 02108. We will be posting a dedication in the Association Web site. Anyone who would like to express their condolence can e-mail us under the subject line, "Condolence" at inquire@canacu.org or post their comments on the message board at: http://www.canacu.org/members-messageboard.htm 2. SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO THE ASSOCIATION WEB SITE As the Association undergoes phase 3 of its development road map to concentrate on: 1) MARKETING to make the Association more publicly known, 2) COMMUNICATION to improve contact between the membership and HP, and 3) INTERACTION to increase activity and relationship amongst members, users and customers, the Association Web site will be positioned as the focal point for developing the Association as an online community to achieve its phase 3 objectives. These development initiatives will result in a newer look with reorganized and more interactive content in the Web site. Please visit www.canacu.org regularly to follow our progress in taking the Association to a new level of communication and interaction. 3. PROPOSAL FOR FALL 3003 TECHNICAL SEMINAR The Association is deciding on the content and location for its next technical seminar which can be expected to take place in the Fall of 2003 in Western Canada with the following candidate cities under consideration: Calgary , Edmonton, Vancouver, and Victoria.
