The groups involved were: CANACU, EARLUG, the Toronto User Group (TUG) and the Canadian Tandem User Group (CTUG). TUG is a heritage (i.e. pre-merger) HP user group. We agreed on our agenda, learned each other's history then discussed our future. After two days of intense (and productive) debate, we agreed on a set of principles, the most important of which is that we are going to work together but we are going to remain autonomous. To coordinate the activities of the different groups, we're going to form a body called the Canadian National User Council (CaNUC) which will have a representative for each group as well as one from HP. The rest of the results of the summit are being worked on via an e-mail conference. We'll post the final document on our website when it is completed. - Alan Clifford 2. INSTAPOLL QUESTION ON NONSTOPSERVER TECHNOLOGY The new HP InstaPoll question asks: Do you know how to contact a training center near you for training on HP NonStopserver technology? To submit your response, go to the Association Web site at: http://www.canacu.org 3. IN CASE YOU DON'T ALREADY KNOW... This may be old news by now but, nevertheless, it's still a topic of interest. Capellas Quits No. 2 Spot At HP - Hewlett-Packard will start the new year with a clean slate, revealing Monday that its president and former Compaq CEO Michael Capellas is leaving HP. http://update.informationweek.com/cgi-bin4/flo?y=eJfb0EKRUM0V20Bl3r0AO 4. TECHNICAL TID-BIT OF GENERAL INTEREST Intel has reached a PC milestone by launching the Pentium 4 processor at 3.06 GHz. This is the first commercial microprocessor to operate at 3 billion cycles-per-second and is made possible by using 0.13-micron manufacturing technology. PRESENTATION CONTENT FROM TECHNICAL SEMINARS NOW AVAILABLE Presentation content used by the speakers at the Technical Seminars is now available to Association members for downloading. EARN PRIZES WITH MEMBERSHIP REFERRAL PROGRAM Simply refer new members to join the Association, earn points for your referrals, and then cash your points in for prizes. To find out more about this exciting program and the prizes you can win, go to: http://www.canacu.org/programs-recruitment-referral.htm 7. SELF MAINTAINERS SIG There has been interest in a new SIG for Compaq Self Maintainers. As you may know, a self maintainer is a firm that does not have a direct service level agreement with Compaq and is therefore responsible for supporting their own hardware and software. The purpose for this new SIG would be for members to exchange information regarding issues pertaining to those self maintainers that specifically deal with internal customers. This is an exciting opportunity to exchange ideas, concerns and questions for those members that do not have specific relationships with Compaq. In addition, the Association can serve as a conduit to Compaq, providing a way for self maintainers to more effectively service their users. If you are a Compaq Self Maintainer, and are interested in participating in this SIG, please let us know at 'inquire@canacu.org'. 8. ON-LINE ADVOCACY Have issues for Compaq? Share your thoughts! Reach Compaq through the "Local Voices...Global Reach" Online Advocacy Program. Your opinions count, so visit today to submit issues or participate in the latest Insta-poll question. If you have issues specific to Compaq Canada that you think are not appropriate for the Online Advocacy Program, feel free to forward them to advocacy@canacu.org, and the Association board will present it to the Canadian Management Committee through our Compaq Delegate, Matthew MacFarlane. 9.
