SEASON'S GREETINGS FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Fellow Members, Christmas is a time of sharing, celebration, and reflection. As President of the Canadian Association of Compaq Users, I would like to say that the spirit of the season is also alive and well with our Association. The past year has seen the Association emerge from a period of inactivity to a year of revitalization for the organization. Through the diligence of your Board and your participation as members, we have developed the Association into a truly national organization that now has breath in structure and depth in interaction. We now have a strong online presence with the Association Web site and have been communicating regularly with our members through our bi-weekly newsletter. Our membership development program has generated substantial new members from across the country, as well as from the U.S. and around the world. Our successful technical seminars in September were a proof-of-concept exercise that validated the value of face-to-face information exchange for our members. We can expect the new year to hold even greater promises as our development efforts in 2002 have enabled the Association to become well poised for further growth in 2003. With a restructured user group organization resulting from the summit meeting in November, we look forward to a new working relationship with HP and other user groups to increase our value offering to our members in the months to come. On behalf of the Board, I would like to extend our best wishes to you and your families for a safe and joyous holiday season. We look forward to a more active and exciting year in 2003! Dave Wilson President, The Canadian Association of Compaq Users 2. SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM ATTRACTS NEW SPONSOR The Association sponsorship program which was initiated this past summer have attracted the interest of many companies that would like to paticipate in the growth of the Association as an advertiser. We will announce the participation of one of these companies as a new sponsor for the Association once the paperwork is finalized by January. To find out more about the Association's sponsorship program, go to http://www.canacu.org/programs-sponsorship.htm 3. NEW DIRECTIONS FOR NEW USER GROUP ORGANIZATION The user group summit meeting in November has resulted in a new working relationship between HP and the user groups in Canada. This will present new opportunities and benefits for the Association in the new year. We will present the details of the new user group organization and how they will impact the directions of the Association once they have been ratified by the new Canadian National User Council. 4. PRESENTATION CONTENT FROM TECHNICAL SEMINARS STILL AVAILABLE Presentation content used by the speakers at the September Technical Seminars is now available to Association members for downloading. The files in PowerPoint format are located at: http://www.CANACU.ORG/presentations-HP29c.htm 5. SELF MAINTAINERS SIG There has been interest in a new SIG for Compaq Self Maintainers. As you may know, a self maintainer is a firm that does not have a direct service level agreement with Compaq and is therefore responsible for supporting their own hardware and software. The purpose for this new SIG would be for members to exchange information regarding issues pertaining to those self maintainers that specifically deal with internal customers. This is an exciting opportunity to exchange ideas, concerns and questions for those members that do not have specific relationships with Compaq. In addition, the Association can serve as a conduit to Compaq, providing a way for self maintainers to more effectively service their users. If you are a Compaq Self Maintainer, and are interested in participating in this SIG, please let us know at 'inquire@canacu.org'. 6. ON-LINE ADVOCACY Have issues for Compaq? Share your thoughts! Reach Compaq through the "Local Voices...Global Reach" Online Advocacy Program. Your opinions count, so visit today to submit issues or participate in the latest Insta-poll question. If you have issues specific to Compaq Canada that you think are not appropriate for the Online Advocacy Program, feel free to forward them to advocacy@canacu.org, and the Association board will present it to the Canadian Management Committee through our Compaq Delegate, Matthew MacFarlane. 7.
