Encompass Canada, in collaboration with HP (Canada) Co., successfully presented this year's first seminar in the User Group's 'Technical Directions 2006' events series. The one-day technical seminar in Montreal on April 25, 2006 was fully attended by participants respresenting companies and organizations from the Montreal area as well as from Ontario and the U.S.

The Montreal seminar agenda was more diversified than previous events, this time covering both UNIX and OpenVMS topics of interest. Presentations were not only delivered by staff from HP engineering but also by HP partners and sponsors providing developer and user perspectives on specified topics. Attendee participation in the sessions was enthusiastic turning many of the sessions into highly interactive forums for information exchange..

Through the generousity of the International Institute of Telecommunications, the event was held at the convenient downtown location Place Bonaventure) of their spaciously modern training facilities. The success of the event was attributed to the venue for accommodating the greater than expected turnout, the participation of the event sponsors and, of course, HP and the tireless enthusiasm of the Montreal (Kirkland) HP office for their involvement in the planning.

As a result of the valued information exchange generated by the one-day event and the positive feedback received from the attendees, Encompass Canada will apply the format and practices from the Montreal seminar as a model for the planning of future technical events.
