President's New Year's Message - 2007 January 16, 2007 Dear Fellow Members, HP Partners and Users; 2006 has been an active year for Encompass Canada as we shifted to the next major phase of our HP User Group’s development. Consolidating what we have built over the last five years, 2007 will be the start of generating greater value for our membership and HP partners and users. By leveraging our accomplishments in establishing the visibility of Encompass Canada within the HP user community, we will continue to strengthen our ties with HP marketing and engineering staff. Through our user group events and activities, our plans are to also broaden our outreach to establish stronger relationships with our HP partners and the wider community of HP users. In order to effectively communicate to our nationwide membership across Canada, we have created an on-line presence that is centred around our Web site at encompasscanada.org. This year we will continue to build on our virtual storefront by creating additional content of value mainly through improved usability and a new historic archives section. A branding overhaul to gain better recognition of our Encompass Canada identity is also in the works and will take place throughout the year. We are continuing with our successful technical seminar series of events as there is no more effective way to forge relationships between HP users and partners than face-to-face interaction at such venues of information exchange. Our first seminars are scheduled to take place in Toronto and Montreal on February 20 and 22 respectively. More details about these events will be broadcasted in the days to come. This year marks a very special anniversary celebration for one of our Local User Groups. EARLUG, the Edmonton-Area Local User Group, will be celebrating their 30th year! Back in April of 1977, a handful of local DECUS members and users of Digital’s VAX./VMS came together to share ideas, information and form some great friendships. They continue to meet each month in Edmonton to this day! We will help them celebrate this great milestone, so keep an eye out for details on both our member newsletter and our Web site. Please contact us if you want to get involved in these celebrations. 2007 will be an exciting year for Encompass Canada and, more specifically, our members as there is an eventful year ahead of us.
